
One down, two to go. Ventnor will soon auction off another retail consumption liquor licenses on Friday, Nov. 2. Ventnor Commissioners have set the minimum bid amount at $77,100.
Blake Barabuscio won the first license at $77,100. If Barabuscio passes a background check, he hopes to open a Santucci’s Original Square Pizza restaurant in Ventnor, at the site of the soon to close, Arrow Hardware.
The man behind the planned Ventnor Square Movie Theater, Brett DeNafo, wants to win that 2nd license. Food & drink play a major role in his hi-tech, comfy seat, movie theatre business.
Denafo is connected to the successful Harbor Square Theatre in Stone Harbor. DeNafo is also the Sales Manager at WIBG Radio, and is a former General Manager of Atlantic Broadcasting in Linwood.

Ventnor’s population allows it to issue up to three liquor licenses. The bidding process includes:
An Affidavit of Qualification must be delivered to the Ventnor City Clerk on or before Wednesday, Oct. 24. Bids are due a week later. Formal sealed bids are due to no later than 10a., Friday, Nov. 2.
The bid package must include:
- ABC’s 12-page application
- a letter setting forth the bid amount
- copy of the signed Affidavit of Qualification
- certified check or money order equaling 10 percent of the bid amount.
- The balance of the bid amount is due 10 days after bidding.
Applicants must have an ongoing restaurant or a realistic plan to open one within 24 months of acquiring a license.
Bid packages can be picked up at Ventnor City Hall, 6201 Atlantic Ave., Ventnor, NJ.
